The biography of dr. Odette van Brummen- Girigori

Odette van Brummen- Girigori graduated as psychologist with major in Development Psychology, Social Psychology and additional major in Labor Organization and Staff Psychology at the Rijksuniversiteit Groningen (RUG). In 2015 she obtained her doctor’s degree in Psychology at the Faculty of Behavioral and Social Sciences (Rijksuniversiteit Groningen).

Odette van Brummen-Girigori is also registered as a Child and Youth psychologist NIP and Euro psychologist and Self Confrontation Method consultant.

From her psychologist practice she deals with several psychological tests, psychological guidance, intelligence test/capacities research, transition elementary/secondary education, diagnostics of learning disorders, dyslexia testing, personality testing, career guidance, study testing, guidance testing, assessments, training and tailor-made workshops, guidance on the basis of self-confrontation research (ZKM), project management/project consultancy. Finally, Odette van Brummen-Girigori engages in various scientific and socially relevant research projects.

Education

Odette van Brummen- Girigori was born in Willemstad, Curaçao. After finishing secondary school she moved to the Netherlands and a year later she obtained her bachelor foundation in Care/Health Science at the Noordelijke Hogeschool Leeuwarden. Later on Odette van Brummen- Girigori transferred to the university and in 2000 she graduated as psychologist with major in Development Psychology, Social Psychology and additional major in Labor Organization and Staff Psychology at the Rijksuniversiteit Groningen (RUG). In 2015 she obtained her doctor’s degree in Psychology at the Faculty of Behavioral and Social Sciences (Rijksuniversiteit Groningen) with her dissertation Father Absence: The consequences for reproductive behavior and mating strategies among females. Odette van Brummen- Girigori is also registered as a Child and Youth psychologist NIP and Euro psychologist and Self Confrontation Method consultant.

Career

After finishing her study Psychology Van Brummen- Girigori worked at ABP (Loyalis) and afterwards she opened her own psychologist practice in the Netherlands. Amongst others she dealt with psychological counselling and treatment, coaching, self-confrontation research, career counselling, fitness research, assessments, study testing, dyslexia testing, intelligence testing/ capacity testing, residential guidance advice, different trainings and policy advice for the municipality Rotterdam (Capelle).

Van Brummen- Girigori has been working as a scientist at the University of Curaçao Dr. Moises da Costa Gomez since 2008 and she has occupied several positions such as program manager and dean of the Faculty of Behavioral and Social Sciences. At this moment she is part-time academic staff member at the Research Center and teaches Psychology to students of the teachers’ program and Certificate of Education.

Van Brummen- Girigori is engaged in various scientific and socially relevant research projects such as baby development, the consequences of growing up without a father, body-image, green social work, school experience, bullying behavior among young people and promoting a healthy life style amongst young people. As a consequence Van Brummen- Girigori has published in various international scientific journals such as Evolution of Human Behavior, Evolution Mind and Behavior, Personality and Individual Differences, Sex Roles, Routhledge Handbook of Green Social Work and International Journal of Cognitive Therapy.
